Account Suspended [Mar. 2nd, 2009|07:07 pm]

hamsteronapiano
Does anyone else get an error page saying "Account Temporarily Suspended" when they try to access A&L? Is it just me, or is there something going wrong?

Bavarian Born Gothics [Oct. 3rd, 2008|12:44 pm]

eyvor
So, there was this company event at Munich's Oktoberfest...and we were asked to wear Bavarian national costumes aka "Dirndl". Quite naturally, my closet does not hold one of these, for I never attend the "Wies'n" under normal circumstances. And since my full-time job did not give me the time to sew a Dirndl from scratch, I got one dirt-cheap off ebay and modified it.
from boring store-bought Dirndl to my unique, Gothy version )

[Current Music |Derniére Volontè ~ Au Travers Des Lauriers]

I've changed careers once more and went from fashion industry and their laid-back attitude regarding my looks to an office job as a recruiter. Quite needless to say that I had next to zero to wear. My new company is business casual and I can still get away with lace, velvet and floor-length skirts, but it's always fun to create and experiment with new styles, isn't it?
So, I won't bore you any further but introduce you to the items I've made so far behind the cut: )

flaming bassinet [Jul. 8th, 2008|11:48 am]

My distaste for baby pastels prompted me to revamp this bassinet.  )
It has now filled up with a baby girl.

Helloooo, everyone!

I'm a long time lurker on the A&L website, forums (though I've never joined...) and now here! So I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm from Australia. I love to write, sew skirts and corsets (expensive but worth it!). So yeah. I just thought I'd pop in to introduce myself. I'll hope to start posting some of my sewing and DIY projects soon!

pardon me, sir, but I am trying to assemble a raygun [Mar. 17th, 2008|10:58 pm]

lilibat
... what you say when the Home Depot customer service monkeys keep trying to 'help' you when you have been standing in their aisle for 20 mins trying to put parts together. I was inspired in the plumbing department to build this while making that cane I posted previously, then I found the perfect bits in the electrical department to make the end of the barrel and I was off!

Maybe a little too off.

In any case I present the Xevian 13 Assault Blaster - Nightwing Edition:

The base for this is an airsoft gun off of ebay, finally got one with wood. All the hardware bits are from Home Depot from at least 5 different departments. I got the filigree and the bat off of etsy and ebay respectively.

I could be happier with it because I feel it isn't perfect, but I figure it isn't bad for a first attempt with found parts.

I will be making another with slightly different decorations for my husband.

In response to a question about Home Depot:

Well considering I brought this back for the final bits, (meaning the conduit assembly and the blorgabulator under the barrel), and I was walking around the store with a half-finished raygun.... it was interesting.

Originally most of the Home Depot employees had no CLUE what a raygun was, and even seemed a bit befuddled when I said "science fiction costume". Once I actually had the half assembled gun with me I got quite a few comments. One guy thought I had an actual gun for a moment and rather lost his shit. Then he sorted it out and sought comfort in my explanations which gave him little comfort. I don't think my assertion that a real gun dressed up as a raygun prop would be well hidden helped.

Liverpool New Rock? [Oct. 4th, 2007|03:10 pm]

wolven_spine
I don't know if this is the right place for this question but ive tried everywhere and i figure someone here would know.

I'm looking for a pair of new rock boots Reactors with out the inside zip but with the velcro straps. I'm looking for a pair in the UK, who are either willing to ship them to me (I'm in Canada) or to Liverpool so than my Nan can bring them with her when she comes to visit or I'm looking for someone who's got an old pair (but still in good condition) who's willing to sell them to me.

I'm sorry that was so long!

Question on patterns [Oct. 1st, 2007|07:41 pm]

poised_ivy
Can anyone recommend pattern drafting and altering starting points? I am a newbie designer, and I really want to know how to create my own patterns and not just wing it and trial and error a million times like I am now. Any advice?

My first fetish industrial outfit with an institutional style [Oct. 1st, 2007|07:35 pm]

poised_ivy
This was one of my first cyber-esque projects and it took a week of obsessive sewing to complete on time to attend a fetish club event. Vinyl has become my new obstacle, its quite the stubborn fabric to work with!! Anyone recommend any good places to purchase a teflon presser foot?
